The $2 Rose You Bought at Walgreens Part 1

Yes, appropriately titled, my recaps of the Bachelorette will be called this. Because seriously ABC, catch up with the times, a rose is the CHEESIEST, UN-ROMANTIC, AWFUL, UN-SCENTED flower you could give anyone.

So here goes Monday night’s recap (sorry it’s 4 days late)

Ashley: Never really liked her to begin with on the Bachelor with Brad. I mean was it me or did she swing her hair over and around her head too much when she talked? Plus she was SUPER self-concious (even a turn-off for a girl just watching the show), AND she claimed Dentist status when really she is in Dental School. Don’t get me wrong, it is a huge achievement to get into Dental School, much less at UPenn. But now it will be almost a year, maybe even 2 after all this Bachelor/Bachelorette shindig is over and you will still have more school to finish. And I will be taking bets for if home girl finishes school or not. I’m going with a solid NO.

Anywho she says she’s so over being down and regretting being self-concious, and sees that she needs to find a good man to help her through life yatta yattta. Cue guys.

Let me say this, Ashley definitely got the better crop of men than Ali. Can I get an Amen? I mean no creepy Casey, or that silent guy that lurked in the shadows, etc. etc. All Ashley’s men seam semi to a little bit normal. But how normal can anyone be who goes onto ABC to “fall in love” and get married? Yeah, thought so.

From the bros that I can remember…

Ryan P. - Um, beautiful, successful, smart, nice, environmentally friendly. But it’s like one of those guys you will probably get annoyed with pretty quickly because he is so perfect (aka: Not-so-Perfect Jake who picked Vienna)

William - So funny, and cute, and nervous. And he sales cell phones. Excuse me his correct title according to the Bachelorette is ‘Cellular Phone Salesman’. Like it makes it sound 40 times better.

*Side note* - that’s a problem that I have with the Bachelor/Bachelorette series, they make the most normal people seem to be the biggest baddest mofo around. I mean I’m pretty sure they would make the unemployed Lauren Hall seem as if she had the best job around. And is a total winner. Which I am.

Ames - WHAT A DOUCHER. A MAJOR DOUCHER at that! I cannot stand guys like this first of all. I do not CARE how many degrees from how many prestigious schools you have. Once you get that old, it’s only if you will pay the money to go. And he says he’s ran all of these marathons and my favorite the “Super Marathons, where you run for like 28 hours straight.” That doesn’t make you cool, athletic, or more handsome to me, that makes you sound like a psycho path with an irregular addiction.

Um was it me or were there like 3 guys who look alike?

These 3. I mean triplets. For real.

And sadly, I think she’s in to that long-haired-Italian-I-looked-so-confused kind of guy.

And then there’s Bentley. (Who would name their child after a car besides Macy in 16 & Pregnant?) Yes Bentley the dog is perfectly acceptable Brooke. :) Anywho, he seems to be there “not for the right reasons” well tell me who isn’t?? I can guarantee you every single person who has EVER been on one of these shows was lured there by some type of interest of being on television and potentially becoming famous. But he keeps saying that he wishes it was Emily. Well Bentz, I saw Emily at a golf tournament in Charlotte recently and she looked perfectly happy being single. So who knows what this guy will do, I’m guessing another Wes?

Masked Man!: All you are doing is creeping out Ashley and the rest of America. You are far far farrrr from the point you are trying to make about “Let’s just talk and get to know each other. Our society is so based on looks and I don’t want this to be like that.” So what you are basically trying to say, either A) You are ugly as sin, and the rest of the guys look like Calvin Klein models compared to you or B) You really are just a freak. or C) A combo of both. (It’s my favorite that he doesn’t even have a photo. Just an outline, like the people on Facebook who don’t have photos. Perfect!)

And then there’s the rest of the spiky, gel-haired boys who’s names I cannot remember, nor do I care to for now.

And not to be debbie-downer but I totally looked at the spoilers for this season and I know who at least makes it to the top 4. Oops. :) And I won’t give away, pinky promise.

Until next time…..

M.I.A

So yeaaahhh, about that. Sorry, I just figured this was a stupid project and no one cared what was going on in my lame life. Then I kept hearing from my friends that they read this thing, and that my Twitter was funny/witty/sarcastic “you should write a blog” so I’m going at this again. Full steam ahead. Unfortunately, I cannot be as COMPLETELY honest, and straight forward as I would hope to be (Gwen saying to me, “ANYONE can look at ANYTHING you post on the internet!!”) True. And since I am still jobless and in hopes of impressing someone at some company real soon I will keep this PG to PG-13, when necessary.

I think the best way for me to keep up with this is to post on a regular schedule. Monday nights/Tuesday morning/days will recap the Bachelorette as I see it. Of course with lots of sarcasm, seeing it as I have no friends to watch it with and comment on the awful situations and people anymore.

Then I will add the random thoughts and things that just weave their way through my head and life. Maybe some pics. Maybe some funny things that the 5 people I interact on a daily basis say (3 being my family, 1 being my boyfriend, 1 being a 9 year-old I babysit.) Trust me, I got this.

Reece & I went antiquing 3 weeks ago (I’m getting so slack with posting). We were mainly shopping for him because I am now hired as “interior decorator” of his apartment come August. But I found these lamps and about peed myself. Even Reece liked them. And so I asked him to check the price tag thinking they would be $300 a piece.. but $100 for the pair! My first big girl purchase and they are HUGE and green and damask-like and I am in LOVE!

oh jeez. life update.

So it’s been a while. And that is because my Macbook pro decided to temporarily die on me. This death was reluctantly short lived because it was the video card that needed to be replaced and nothing to do with the hard drive. THANK GOODNESS! And the best best BEST part was that this $902.64 video card cost me a whopping $0.00. Yes it was FREE! I think there was a recall on a couple of the computers (I bought mine in the summer of 2007). But that was the best news ever!

Aside from being lost for the past week and a half without my computer, I have been interning daily (Mon-Thurs) from around 9:30 - 2. It is downtown and the location couldn’t be more perfect! Being downtown and going out for lunch makes me feel so important. Except that I am only an intern, but no one else knows that. :)

The internship is going well, I am getting some real projects to do, and learning a lot.

And that, that’s about it for now.

oscars

So this weekend is the Oscars, and I have seen 6 of the 10 films nominated for Best Picture. And here are my brief opinions of what I have seen.

Black Swan: A good movie, no matter what you have heard about the girl makeout scene or the gross fingernail parts. It really wasn’t as gory or raunchy as I had expected. The way people were talking about it I mentally prepared for the worst. Natalie Portman does a wonderful job and is very believable in her acting and dancing. The film is more of a physiological thriller and is extremely interesting.

The Fighter: Have not seen it, but Reece has and said it was really good. And Christian Bale deserves Best Supporting Actor for his role.

Inception: Great plot, characters, & cinematography, however I feel the script wasn’t as great. The story is extremely interesting but because of the failed writing it can come across as very confusing. The storyline I think is too imaginary to win Best Picture but it is a really great film and if you want to think, go see it.

The Kids are All Right: Have not seen this one, but I want to. Maybe I will before Sunday and give an update.

The King’s Speech: This film is AMAZING. And wins my pick for Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Colin Firth). Even if you don’t enjoy historical films this is a must see. The writing is very witty and the storyline is true, exciting, and plays with your emotions. For Colin to play a character with a very believable stutter is phenomenal. I love British acting anyways, and the entire cast is great.

127 Hours: This film was actually a lot better than I was expecting. Reece traded me watching this for him watching Black Swan. This is another film based on a true story and James Franco does a great job in making the film more than just him stuck in a ravine for 127 hours. There are flashbacks, and actually some comedy from the actor. The one part that I feel is shying audiences away is the “gory scene”, it lasts about 2 1/2 minutes and I just looked away for that part. But the rest is really interesting and very inspiring.

The Social Network: Good film, but I didn’t feel it was as great as everyone (the critics) have made it out to be. The story, as we all know is really interesting, but you also question how realistic is the story the film tells. You ask yourself if the filmmakers were for or against Zuck and how that influenced their storytelling. The acting was pretty good, and the storyline was good as well, but you’re left questioning a lot of things.

Toy Story 3: Will definitely win Best Animated Feature, but I am surprised it is even placed into this category. Don’t get me wrong I am a HUGE fan of the TS series but for actor’s voices to compete with actual actors is kind of strange. I still HIGHLY recommend this film. You don’t have to see the first two to enjoy the third, but it helps to get invested in the characters and storyline.

True Grit: Haven’t seen it, but I want to. Reece won’t shut up about how good it is.

Winter’s Bone: The 4th I haven’t seen, nor have I heard of it until award’s season. It must be that “Indy Film we have to give credit to” that they have every year in this category that will get popular after the fact.

And there you have it.

Water for Elephants

One of the BEST books I have ever read. And yeah, I don’t read a ton, but this book is PHENOMINAL. For real, go read it before the movie comes out and probably destroys this work of art.

It was a quick, easy read and really entertaining.

Brief summary: Jacob is a 90-something year old man living in a nursing home. Through his day dreaming, the audience is taken back in time to the days of the depression as he worked for one of the traveling circuses. Through his memory you will find laughter, heartache, hatred, guilt, promiscuity, love, and excitement!

My parents both read the book and recommended it to me and I was equally enamored with it, so any age would enjoy this novel. Go read it!!! :)

weekend recap

Holy jeez. This past weekend I dragged Reece up to Raleigh for some good old fashioned ADPi fun. It was our 40th anniversary of being at State and of course most of us found it as a good excuse to dress up cute and drink and eat. I got to see a lot of my friends and then a lot of people I didn’t care to see and then A LOT of people I didn’t know.

It was pretty overwhelming at the amount of people and sisterly love going on, but nevertheless we made it fun.

GLEE!

Ok I’m going to be a HUGE dork and post the top reason why I am OBSESSED with Glee! Sure it can get pretty corny at times, but when you mix high school + singing & dancing randomly of course it will turn that way pretty quickly. However, Glee does it in a way that isn’t quite as dorky and obvious as things like High School Musical or musicals made into films.

Top 5 Reasons Why I LOVE Glee

1. They take music from all genres and introduce them to an audience who would more than likely have never heard of the song. Case and point, I would have NEVER discovered “Dog Days are Over” by Florence + the Machine (my favorite song right now) or “Sing” by My Chemical Romance.

2. They don’t just karaoke the songs, they add more harmonies, change rhythms, and even “mash up” songs. They give the audience a different version of an already great song. And sometimes when we’re tired of the Top 20, Glee sings it and it sounds like something totally new. Case and point “Baby” by Justin Bieber that was on last night was actually fantastic. And I hate that song and the Biebs.

3. They have introduced to many and re-introduced to some the world of Broadway music. I have been going to see musicals since I was in early elementary school. But a lot of kids never have the opportunity to see the shows or even more hear the amazing score. Glee is introducing songs from all musicals (Wicked, RENT, Singing in the Rain, Les Mis, etc. etc. etc.) and people are actually responding positively to the theater. And I LOVE it!

4. All the cast is SUPER talented. They can all sing and dance and act. And are equally good at all 3. Yes, if you’ve ever questioned it, everyone who sings a song on Glee, whether they are a cast mate or a guest star, it is really them singing. And that is talent.

5. The show is hilarious. Brittany S. Pierce is my personal favorite with Sue coming in second. Brittany’s quick one-liners are hilarious and are delivered in the most brilliant way. If she said half of the things she did in a different tone the effect wouldn’t be as funny.

    Some favorite Brittany lines:

“I was pretty sure Dr. Pepper was a dentist.”

Mr. Schue: ”Who can tell me who Christopher Cross is?”

Brittany: ”He discovered America.”

Mr. Schue: ”Who can tell me what a ballad is?”
Brittany: ”A male duck.”

Brittany: ”Did you know that dolphins are just gay sharks?… Yeah.”

”When I pulled my hamstring, I went to a misogynist.”

Mr. Schue: ”What’s an anthem?”
Brittany: ”The bottom of an ant’s pants”

Favorite Songs by Glee:

1. Poker Face (with Indina Menzel)

2. Dog Days are Over

3. Lean on Me

4. Sing (My Chemical Romance)

5.  Don’t Rain on my Parade

6. Time Warp

7. Marry You

8. Jump

9. River Deep, Mountain High

10. Valerie

We (my mom) FINALLY got a new car. Most children wouldn’t really be all that excited for their mom getting a new car, but me, I am ECSTATIC. You see, for the past 20 years of my life I have rode in a loser cruiser (aka: a mini van) with my mother. Once you get to late high school, and yes, college, that does a lot of bad things to your ego.

My mom has had her mini van since I was in the 5TH GRADE! THE 5TH FREAKING GRADE! So finally it did me a favor and decided to die. And in return she is now the owner of a 2011 black Toyota Highlander. It’s about time. And many times this commercial is all too real. haha. :) Happy Tuesday.

i’m going to da ship.

Internship that is.

I start Monday at Charlotte Center City Partners. It’s a non-profit that brings business and events to uptown Charlotte. They are one of the big contributors of why uptown Charlotte is so pedestrian friendly, chic, exciting, and lively. I am REALLY REALLY excited about this opportunity. It will be a real live internship with a desk (a cubicle actually) a phone, a computer, the works! My work will be used all over uptown and in publications throughout the city. I will be alongside the event planning team so hopefully I will get to attend and help out with special happenings (hopefully including the DNC in 2012).

The work environment along with the people that I have met so far are both extremely fun, exciting, and passionate. I think that I have found where I need to be right now and I thank God and family & friends that have put me in this awesome place.

There is a lot of promise of good quality portfolio pieces (calendar of events, posters/banners, press kits, etc. etc. etc.) along with strong contacts. I’m excited to get started and to finally be a part of something that is big, and is causing a lot of good change for a lot of people!

I’ll keep ya posted on intern adventures if possible. :)
